Is The Originals Daniel Gillies Prepping for Movie Roles?
Could the busy schedule The Originals Daniel Gillies has be preparing him for a big screen project?
Between The Originals and Saving Hope, Daniel Gillies has a busy TV schedule. Is he planning to jump to a leading role in a big screen project?
In 2014 Daniel was on three different TV shows. Saving Hope in Canada, and The Vampire Diaries and The Originals
in Atlanta. This caught the attention of some people in the industry
who began wondering if the reason he took on such a crazy schedule was
because he was planning to take on a big screen project as the lead.
His two shows of The Originals and Saving Hope make up one
huge demo reel. Saving Hope is a medical fantasy involving a romantic
triangle, while The Originals is a supernatural vampire sci-fi. The two
shows give studio executives, producers, and directors the chance to see
how superb his acting is between these two very different shows. Great
reference and audition material.
In addition to Saving Hope and The Originals, he also wrote,
produced, and directed the “Broken Kingdom” movie and the documentary of
it’s making “Kingdom Come,” about the three-year journey Daniel
took to get his movie made, featuring comments by Don Cheadle, Kevin
Smith, Mark Ruffalo, and Morgan Spurlock. After seeing the documentary,
Showtime requested to see “Broken Kingdom” and bought it. “Broken
Kingdom” also stars Daniel’s wife, Rachael Leigh Cook.
Broken Kingdom synopsis
Four narratives weave their way through the tragic slums of Bogota to
the lofty hills of Hollywood. A 14-year-old prostitute girl and an
ill-fated, eccentric American writer forge a strange companionship. A
Colombian university student invites a terrible danger into her world in
the name of financial solace, while a day-care teacher in Los Angeles
does everything she can to fight the weight of a tragic secret.
Daniel has also been working on his next project, which is “a
metaphysical odyssey looking through a man and woman’s eyes as they
struggle around a dark crime that has descended on them.” He must like
the horror/fantasy genre because he has also played Jon on “True Blood,”
Jack Miller on “Masters of Horror,” and John Jameson in “Spider-Man 2”!
Daniel on his new project
Sounds like a nice, fun date movie, right? Doesn’t that sound like a
fun night at home with your feet kicked up on the ottoman. What is wrong
with me? [Laughs] I listen to myself talking to you, and I’m thinking, god, I need to kick back and watch a few episodes of Family Guy or I don’t f–ing know.
It’s clear from all his projects he can play any role from action
adventure, romantic lead, or complicated characters. From some of his
interviews he could definitely do comedy, too! So where’s that big
screen role that will elevate him to movie stardom?
His character of Dr. Joel Goran was killed off on Saving Hope, so
that leaves plenty of time to focus on filming a movie, especially
during the hiatus of The Originals. With the high regard in Hollywood
for his acting, he could concentrate on movies and possibly leave his
role of Elijah behind. This would also give him more time to spend with
his family, especially since he and Rachael are expecting their second child.
Although he has not publicly stated a movie career is his ultimate
goal, according to insiders in the industry, talented actors working on
multiple TV projects at the same time indicates they’re ready for a
major career move, like movie projects.
Daniel has definitely established the fact that he’s able to handle a
busy, heavy workload, so this is one thing filmmakers don’t have to
worry about when they decide they want him as their leading man!
