Game of Thrones claimed the Drama throne for third consecutive year, winning a total of 9 Awards including Series, Ensemble, Writing and Directing for Drama. In addition the show also won Best Drama Episode for the buzz filled episode ”The Rains of Castamere.” This is also the third consecutive year the series win this category. The show previously won for episodes ”Baelor” and ”Blackwater” – all three wining episodes are the 9th episode of their respective seasons.

But Game of Thrones victory was expected, and because of that it was overshadowed by NBC’s HANNIBAL which won total of 6 awards, including Lead Drama Actor and Supporting Drama Actor. The series also did well in the tech field with wins for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Picture Editing and Contemporary Production Design.

In Comedy, there was one series to rule them all – the returning Arrested Development. The retuning on Netflix series won the whooping 8 Awards, including Comedy Series, Ensemble (stopping the three year reign of Modern Family in this category) Writing and Directing. This wins came after the show broke the record for most nominations for Comedy Series.

In Acting, there were surprises, and there were the more of the same. Alec Baldwin reclaimed Lead Comedy Actor after wining it last year. This was his fourth award for 30 Rock. Tina Fey also defended her Lead Comedy Actress award, so the stars of 30 Rock finished their run victorious. CLICK ON THE TITLE FOR THE FULL ARTICLE…

In Supporting, it was expected for Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) also to defend her award from least year for Supporting Comedy Actress, but it was veteran actress Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope) who claimed the Award. The big moment came in Comedy Supporting Actor where Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met your Mother) who had won this award for the past 6 consecutive years finally lost to the retuning Will Arnett for Arrested Development.

In Drama all 4 categories claimed new victors. Since Breaking Bad (who won last years Drama Actor) was not eligible for a nomination this year, we knew that new champion was due. Same goes for Drama Supporting Actress where last year Jessica Lange won for American Horror Story. She moved from Supporting to Lead for the second season, leaving room in Supporting for new champion.

In Drama Supporting Actor we have two winners due to a tie: Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire) and Mads Mikklesen (Hannibal). This is not the first tie in this category, the same thing happened in2006-2007 when Michael Emerson (Lost) and Masi Oka (Heroes) tied for the win. In Supporting Drama Actress it was another American Horror Story gal to take the prize – Sarah Paulson.

In the lead categories, Jessica Lange (who won in Supporting last year) claimed the Lead Drama Actress award, defeating last year’s champion Claire Danes (Homeland). But the big WOW of the awards season came in Lead Drama Actor, where due to a tie in the nominating process we had 7 nominees. Many expected actors such as Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Emmy champion Damien Lewis (Homeland) or Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) to take the award in the absence of the great Bryan Cranston, but it was Hannibal’s Hugh Dancy to take a shocking victory.
